The net in these images is open… there is nothing in it. The simplicity of the work and the vast open space on some of the pages are to express the idea of this emptiness. The idea of catch and release with the emphasis on release. This work draws on my other work in fragments , where i am exploring ideas of emptiness and fullness, inside and outside. Surface and internal, the ideas of opposites being the same thing actually. These Ideas are also stemming from my reading on Heraclitus and Buddhist philosophy as well as academic work and reading ….
The Fishing net is being used here not only as a treatment for surface(both barrier and sieve) but also as metaphor…for abundance and dearth , and for loss and grief, as well as an image for hope and promise.
The placement of the net , in this work so far, is intentionally open.. unable to catch or in the actof release…
The curves that are captured in the fabric are meant to imply movement over time. The shadows as well, imply time, movement and speak to my other work on shadows.
